Research Expertise & Interests
Prof. Hicken is interested in simulation-based design optimization, a field at the intersection of numerical analysis and optimization. Broadly speaking, his goal is to help engineers design complex fluid systems more effectively and efficiently using numerical simulations. To this end, his research expertise is in computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamic shape optimization, and multidisciplinary design optimization of aerospace systems.
